Great read.By Rabid_ReaderProfessor Phillips's book brings clarity and new insight into the unique war experience that occurred in the border states; the impact of neighbor to neighbor clashes over conflicting social norms of 1850s and 1860s; and how the Union's prosecuting of the war actually intensified resistance and converted many fence-sitters into Confederate sympathizers and rebels. Great read.
