It still is; in many ways; even after the publication of this book. I had the feeling that the author had a collection of index cards that had not been organized in any way; just thrown up in the air and randomly typed into book format. I could never discern whether the soldiers knew or didn't know about Lee's earlier surrender; whether they were rioters or not; whether they walked home; took the train or not. Maybe there was a system; maybe not. I just couldn't tell by the narrative.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Interesting readBy DougIf you enjoy reading Civil War histories; this book is worth your time. Most of us think the South's war came to an end with Lee's surrender in Virginia. But this book chronicles the surrender of The Army of Tennessee in North Carolina which came later. It's a less well known story and the author does an excellent job of telling the story of the courage and pain associated with the event.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
