PDF The Dakota Hunter: In Search of the Legendary DC-3 on the Last Frontiers by Hans Wiesman in History

Description

2014 Reprint of 1955 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition. Not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. The story of "Reckless" is one of the most heartwarming ever told about a horse. Heroic and true; it is an endearing tribute to both man and animal; and to the inviolable bond between them. Born in Korea; Reckless is sold to an American marine during the Korean War. Reckless is trained to help them carry shells for the Recoilless Rifle which they have nicknamed "Reckless"; and she is dubbed with the same nickname. Her antics and her insatiable appetite for such surprising tidbits as poker chips; coca cola; shredded wheat; scrambled eggs and her specially made blanket of red silk bring amusement and relief to the soldiers in combat. So completely does Reckless capture the hearts of her marine comrades that they present her with a special citation for bravery; promote her to the rank of sergeant and personally pay her way to the U.S. where she enjoys a well-earned retirement in Camp Pendleton; California.

Mr Weisman has many interesting stories to tell about the interesting countries he has visited searching for DC3 parts. Some may see irony in the fact he only wants the parts to build office desks but there is much more to his story and his affection for the plane shines through. Not a total success in editing but a lively piece of story telling0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Best book I ever readBy CustomerFascinating; exciting; heart pounding ; tear jerking; this story of the quest for C47 Dakota survivors; wrecks and relics is great for any aviation enthusiaist or lover of a good story. Like tales told around a campfire this book gives a great story. Experiences only few can live but many dream of; I give it high praises.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Great Addition to your Aviation Literature Collection!By CustomerMr. Wiesman not only manages to convey his love for this venerable aircraft; but provides the wannabe World Traveler with valuable insights. A must read for the Aviation Enthusiast and those whose work or passions may lead them down paths less traveled around the globe.
