Avoyelles Parish men formed several Confederate military units during the Civil War. They also made up a large portion of the 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment. The 18th saw action in Tennessee; Mississippi and Alabama before returning to Louisiana. They were one of regiments which made up General Mouton's Army during the Red River Campaign; which brought them right back to their home territory in Avoyelles Parish. This book tells a little of their story as well contains a list of the soldiers from or with strong ties to Avoyelles who were in the 18th Regiment.
