The Fathers Know Best - Your Essential Guide to the Teachings of the Early Church

audiobook The Fathers Know Best - Your Essential Guide to the Teachings of the Early Church by Jimmy Akin in History

Description

A non-sensationalized book that gives readers a trauma-informed way to think about sex trafficking.Forget what you thought you knew about domestic sex trafficking and the best ways to prevent it. The problem is larger in scope and involves more factors than most can imagine. This book lays out what makes young people vulnerable to trafficking; exploring the real root of the problem and the numerous effects of abuse; outlines steps parents and others can take to mitigate those risk factors; and describes ways to help victims find healing.Drawing from her own experience being trafficked plus her insights gained from years of advocacy and anti-trafficking work; the author speaks directly not only of the realities of trafficking that occur in our own communities but also the solutions that we can all be a part of. She talks of everyday things we can do to intervene—not "rescue"—youth in troubled lives and homes. The book also lists hidden signs of trouble and offers parents and professionals practical tools and knowledge to intervene and make a positive difference in young people's lives.Savannah J. Sanders is a leading advocate in the prevention of child sex trafficking. A survivor of hardships; abuse; and trafficking; Savannah is now living a full life as a victim's advocate; wife; and mother of four. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in social work and is working with the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute as Training Coordinator for the SAFE (Safeguarding Adolescents From Exploitation) Action Project. Sanders shares her story and speaks regularly to groups across the United States on anti-trafficking efforts and ways to support victims.

AlvaradoJimmy Akin covers the history of the Church Fathers and demonstrates the reason behind our christian faith which are not expressed explicity in the bible but the tradition given to these men by the Apostles themselves and their successors. It covers the Trinity; the church; The Primacy; Mortal sins; abortion; contraception; homosexuality; what are the Sacraments; what the Church Fathers thought of Mary; sabbath or Sunday?; Salvation; Purgatory; Hell; Reincarnation; the AntiChrist and many more topics.I recommend this book fervently and always remember the water is always purer next to its source. 2;00 years of faith and explanation from the Church Fathers themselves; not some modern day self professed bible theologians making up opinions. There is a lot of wisdom and eternal knowledge on our relationship with God the Father and the Son from these men.A must read for all who wish to go as far back to the first christians and learn why things are or done.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Guide to the teachings of the early (Catholic) ChurchBy Madeline A. AshleyThis is a compilation of the writings of the post apostolic era in the history of the Christian religion: the early Church Fathers explained beliefs during the post New Testament times. It could be considered a supplement to the New Testament. It shows that the beliefs of the Church (Catholic) have been constant and it gives more explanations about beliefs sketched out in the New Testament. I recommend it to serious seekers of the truth; especially Biblical scholars.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. TO KNOW HISTORY; IT TO BE A CATHOLICBy Sister JaneIf you have questions about the teachings of the Catholic Church ; read THE FATHERS KNOW BEST. It contains the writings of the men who followed after the Apostles and passed on the True Faith. Jesus said; "You are Peter and upon this Rock I will build My Church" and also "Whoever hears you; hears Me." So these are the men who heard. The book is set up in such a way that if you have a particular question about for example; the Pope; Mary; Purgatory; you can go to that section and read what the Fathers have to say about it. Know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free. God bless you.
