JohnsonI had a chance to meet Shimon Gibson on my last trip to Israel in March 2013 and must say that he is a very nice man and a top-notch archaeologist. Do I agree with all of his conclusions? By no means. But he provides reasons why he holds some of the views he does. While he is not a believer in God or the Jesus as described in the Bible; he certainly holds to much of the history described there. He quibbles about some things; and he's entitled to his opinion. Some of his conclusions did; I feel; seem to come out of left field--the idea that Lazarus never died threw me for a loop; as I had never heard anyone suggest the "Lazarus Syndrome" before--but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing what he had to say about archaeology and the life of Christ. If you are a Christian; he will need to sort through some of his ideas that you will have never heard of before; but as I say; it was interesting and I believe well worth a look for anyone who is interested in biblical archaeology.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Could be betterBy J.R. YannelliExcellent book on historical Jesus. I wish he would write more. Could be better with more photographs and diagrams. Ancient Jerusalem is fascinating; there is so much more t o add; just not included in this book. I wish the Author provided more. But; if it is ur first venture into this topic; this is excellent. But; if u know some thing about the history; this is lacking detail.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Fascinating Archeological Look at Jesus's Last DaysBy Joe KesslerI enjoyed the authors previous work on the Cave of John the Baptist. This one I thought was better. It covered a subject that is well known to all Christians. It did get a little boring when went on for a long while about Jewish washing traditions nd of that time. I think understood it fairly quickly. His thoughts on where Jesus was tried was not where I had always thought it had been. He backed many beliefs that I have. The noticeable exception was that he does not believe in the Shroud of Turin. Oh well. It was still a great read for Lent.
