This is a highly personal account of the author’s experiences in the army of Napoleon. The account starts with the author at the age of 19; and without having chosen a career; being inspired to join the cavalry after seeing a regiment of dragoons marching in Paris in 1800. The narrative traces the author’s remarkable rise through the ranks and his experiences under the command of Napoleon. The focus of the book is on military encounters; recording de Ségur’s involvement in the key battles that were to make France the dominant power of Europe in the early 19th century. Yet it is the personal details; such as Napoleon’s reaction to the tomb of Frederick the Great; discussions between Napoleon and his officers; and the author’s experiences away from the battlefield; which make this work a compelling and unique narrative of such an important period in European history.

If you're a real fan of this aircraft and are after the in depth detail on this great aircraft then Roger Brooks has done a great job of bringing together some real detail. It's got lots of technical data which can sometimes be a little bit too verbose; however the chapters detailing the aircraft accidents are very well written. I also enjoyed the chapters detailing aircraft construction. I'd recommend to any ardent Victor fan.0 of 3 people found the following review helpful. For A very Limited AudienceBy Mike PowellThe content of this book seems to be be a hodgepodge of minutia with little in the way of context. There are some articles lifted from accident reports and other publications that have interest for the aviation enthusiast; the rest will interest only the most dedicated of Victor fans seeking lists of end notes from tech manuals or some such. Overall; this work is a poor value for money; though it is well printed. Dedicated to the Mark 2; I had hoped to find coverage of Blue Steel at some length. If it's in there; I missed it; though I admit to only having thumbed the volume for less than ten minutes before wondering if I could in good conscience return the thing as unused.
