Though finding truly descriptive adjectives is difficult: uplifting; awe-inspiring; terrifying.....The format of the book; with its engaging stories of the rescuers interwoven with the historical influences and events and the personal insights of the author make it extremely readable.The dichotomy of the ages of the rescuers at the time of their brave deeds and the time Mr. Klempner interviewed them also lends much authenticity. I cannot imagine having the independence and conviction to follow my moral compass; as some of the rescuers did at a very young age. But what Mr. Klempner said in an interview really struck me: "...I caught the rescuers in the last years of their lives...this was their chance to really put down for posterity not only what they did during the Nazi years; but also what they'd come to believe about life and living."I thought that was so profound; that we got to see not only how they felt while they were engaged in the rescue; but after; and its relation to and and part in the whole balance of the rest of their lives.This is a wonderful book; and as member of my Book Club said; "It made me feel that I can make a difference."0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The Heart Has Reasons: Purchased at .comBy depThe Heart Has Reasons is an amazing book. This is about people in the Netherlands who rescued Jews during the Holocaust. These people were all so brave; and still many of them didn't want recognition for what they did. It was also quite interesting watching the author wrestle with his own personal demons while researching and writing this book. The authors parents both lost much of their families to the Holocaust. The authors father and his immediate family were on the last boat out of Poland five days before World War II began. A very well researched book with lots of meaning and insight into why people would save others in trouble.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. It's very satisfying to read the honest accounts of good people who chose to risk all in helping their brothers and sisters.
