In the early days of the Korean War; 450+ American prisoners were marched from Taejon; South Korea; to Seoul; then on to Pyongyang; North Korea. There they boarded a train. On October 19; the train pulled into a tunnel. The North Korean guards unloaded the prisoners; a few at a time; and executed them. Eight of the known survivors tell their story.

I am from California and I have been looking many years for this book; I could only find that two copies were in an Ohio library. I would like to say that I am the great; great; nephew of Col. Eli Long; later a brevet general. I have done extensive research the best that I could on he and the 4th Ohio Volunteer Calvary but wanted to know more. I was fortunate to find some legal papers of his as a lawyer on e-bay including a replica flag of their cavalry troop. The book I received was in absolutely pristine condition as if it just came of the printing press; it was even signed by Nancy Findley and it just blew my mind. As a child I was intrigued by the awards and certificates that my great aunt; widow of Colonel Long's son who was a very prominent doctor from New York and a few years after; I received those items in her will and have them posted on the walls of my office. Later in years; I was absolutely delighted to find that there was actually The Descendants of the 4th Ohio Volunteer Calvary club which I'm sure most of you have heard of. I am proud to say that myself and my 24 year old son are now members and I look forward to future newsletters and/or events. I can't thank Ms. Findley enough for her extensive and informative research she has put into her book for all of us to enjoy as proud descendants of this great group of men who fought and died in the rebellion. I don't really believe in coincidences but the amazing thing is the surname Findley is that of my mother's maiden name in which even made purchasing this book extra special. Excellent book on the 4th Ohio Cavalry!By Robert E. WehrleNancy did a great job in painstakingly writing the history of the 4th Ohio Cavalry. The pictures are great; too. My great-grandpa (William J. Hayes) was in the 4th. I told Nancy that I would send a picture of him shortly......in his uniform.I liked the maps that were drawn which showed where the battles were and how the railroads played a role in the war.
