The Kingdom Within: The Inner Meaning of Jesus' Sayings

ebooks The Kingdom Within: The Inner Meaning of Jesus' Sayings by John A. Sanford in History

Description

Working side by side in the White House; Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger were two of the most compelling; contradictory; and powerful figures in America in the second half of the twentieth century. While their personalities could hardly have seemed more different; both were largely self-made men; brimming with ambition; driven by their own inner demons; and often ruthless in pursuit of their goals. Tapping into a wealth of recently declassified archives; Robert Dallek uncovers fascinating details about Nixon and Kissinger's tumultuous personal relationship and brilliantly analyzes their shared roles in monumental historical events—including the nightmare of Vietnam; the unprecedented opening to China; détente with the Soviet Union; the Yom Kippur War in the Middle East; the disastrous overthrow of Allende in Chile; and the scandal of Watergate.

I saw right away that it is a subtle attack against the truth of Who Jesus Christ is. These types of authors (Richard Rohr is another) sound like true believers in the Lord Jesus when you start reading them; but if you have had the experience of being "born again"--giving your heart and life to Jesus Christ--you soon realize they do not know Him at all; nor; in fact; do they claim to personally know Him. They know some things ABOUT Him; but they do NOT worship Him; nor do they claim to do that. They admire Him as a good man and a good teacher; but they do not accept Him as Who He is: God; the Second Person in the Trinity of the one; true God.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ... book set me on a new spiritual path of love and lightBy Anthony Glenn MillerThis book set me on a new spiritual path of love and light. It is simply and beautifully written. After reading this book several decades ago; a friend reminded me of this text as he was in search of a copy. I fished out my old copy and was reminded of the powerful witness to the inner life in Christ that this book offers. Subsequently; my friend was gifted a new copy of this book. Another friend was able to make use of my old copy; and I upgraded to a hardcopy of this text through .com. I'm delighted to recommend this book to anyone seeking to get beyond empty religious rituals and hear the inner meaning and depth of the teachings of Jesus. Antony"The Kingdom Within" by John Sanford is a great introduction to a deeper; psychological understanding of the sayings of Jesus. In our time when Christianity is hamstrung by shallow; literalistic readings of the Bible; that lead to the deadend of fundamentalism; Sanford's Jungian reading provides a way out of the false dichotomy between faith and reason. On a personal level Sanford's approach introduces us to the sayings of Jesus as therpeutic and transformative; sayings that have the power to heal us from the inside out. This approach dovetails with the remarkable convergence of spirituality; psychology; and neuroscience that has manifested itself in the movement of psychology towards Mindfulness-based modalities and an expansion of the understanding of spiritual practice in our culture. I can not more highly recommend this book.
