The Knights Hospitaller in the Levant; c.1070-1309

ePub The Knights Hospitaller in the Levant; c.1070-1309 by J. Riley-Smith in History

Description

Deemed "irreplaceable" by Robert E. Lee; Stonewall Jackson assumed his nickname during the Battle of Bull Run in the Civil War. It is said that The Army of Northern Virginia never fully recovered from the loss of Stonewall's leadership when he was accidentally shot by one of his own men and died in 1863. Davis highlights Stonewall Jackson's a general who emphasized the importance of reliable information and early preparedness (he so believed in information that he had a personal mapmaker with him at all times) and details Jackson's many lessons in strategy and leadership.

Riley Smith shines againBy PhilipProfessor Jonathan Riley-Smith is a guiding light on the early years of the Military Orders; especially the Hospitallers. He is also an authority on the Crusades; on which he has also written extensively. His cautious; well informed approach provides a treasure trove of information which he sifts carefully from his ever-increasing well of knowledge. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and have also purchased the Kindle edition to keep handy. Many thanks Professor.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Dry but Very UsefulBy RobertFull of information--dry--a scholarly work by an academic. However; I wanted it for a scholarly purpose: to learn about the differences between the Templars and the Hospitalers; and it fulfills that purpose precisely.4 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Knight HospitallerBy Steven D. WittbergerThis was a very interesting read and very informative; considering most people concentrate on the Knights Templar. Their journies throughout the Mediterranean are well documented.
