The Last Crusade: The Epic Voyages of Vasco da Gama

PDF The Last Crusade: The Epic Voyages of Vasco da Gama by Nigel Cliff in History

Description

Armed with the personal notebooks of the mysterious World War II spy Theodore Morde; an adventurer who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler; journalist Christopher S. Stewart sets out in search of the lost White City; buried somewhere deep in the Mosquito Coast of Honduras. Stewart pieces together the whirlwind life and peculiar death of Morde; who sailed around the world five times before turning thirty; as he tries to verify Morde's claim of having discovered the "Lost City of the Monkey God."In the tradition of The Lost City of Z and Lost in Shangri-La; Jungleland is in part a classic tale of man versus wild as well as a story of young fatherhood and a meditation on the timeless call of adventure—an epic search for answers in a place where nothing is guaranteed; least of all survival.

The trips that Vasco took to India are amazing and Nigel Cliff writes in detail what the trip took to get back with the spices the West needed. I'm reading for the second time to get the finer points correct. Just order the book and open your eyes......0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. There is a wealth of information here that provides the cultural; religious and economic context for Portugal's drive to explore the coast of Africa and finally reach the Indian Ocean. I highly recommend this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I felt like there were a lot of general statements (which I ...By FraserI've tried reading this a few times. I don't know if it is me but it never really 'clicked'. I felt like there were a lot of general statements (which I guess I am making now). Certainly an interesting topic however and I'd recommend it to someone looking at Vasco Da Gama and subsequent European expansion into Asia.
