Clear Open SpaceBy Moon ManStewart has done a most excellent and long overdue job of compiling many sources of Longchenpa's biography in one book.As is the Tibetan style; these biographies tend to favor litanies of the various teachings and empowerments that an individual received as much as they chronicle historical events - which is all good; since; to a practitioner; these litanies confirm the expanse of an individual's journey. However; the small details of Longchenpa's life - his lifestyle; his way of dealing with people; his charity to the poor - are equally revealing of his realization; and one wishes there were more of these details available. This book also has a detailed Glossary and a compendium of English Translations of Longchenpa's Writings; making it a valuable resource for your Longchenpa studies. Stewart also quotes from his works as chapter headings; and features a full translation of Longchenpa's last testament; STAINLESS LIGHT; which is a great kick in the pants to get your contemplation in gear. From there; make sure you check out YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD; NATURAL PERFECTION; and THE BASIC SPACE OF PHENOMENA to further get a glimpse of what Longchenpa was truly about.May we all find benefit from his well-chosen words!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. this book ties it all togetherBy neili have read many different pieces of longchempa's life from different sources- it was comforting to finally have someone finally put all the various sources together into a timeline of longchempa's life. it took not only creativity; but guts to be honest to the different sources; and still keep it a very easy and enjoyable read. WOW! thankyou!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Truly Great MasterBy RichardA wonderful compilation of stories and teachings. Longchenpa was and is the peerless master of the Nyingma dzogchen lineage of teachings and transmissions. He is every bit as essential today for practitioners in the modern world as he was centuries ago in Tibet. This book is a small treasure.
