MannerinoBefore I say anything in the way of a subjective opinion let me say Jared Peatman's book is a good read. It was almost too in depth relative to research. But it left me almost depressed. Not because of Peatman; not because of Lincoln. It's because of people; American people and their deliberate way of picking out only what supports their already formed or uninformed view of politics in this country. Lincoln offered through his speech an opportunity to hit reset to the basic core of what the Declaration of Independence provided. Flawed as it was by compromise; the main thrust of it; could have been corrected had the country and all of it's people who spoke of morality and decency listened to Lincoln's address in it's entirety instead of merely cherry picking the parts they felt mouthed their belief structure. What a shame. It led to another 150 years of denial and meanness when it came to political morals and political decency.
