Loaded with previously unavailable information about the Confederate Navy's effort to supply its fledgling forces; the wartime diaries and letters of John M. Brooke (1826-1906) tell the neglected story of the Confederate naval ordnance office; its innovations; and its strategic vision. As Confederate commander of ordnance and hydrography in Richmond; Virginia; during the Civil War; Brooke numbered among the military officers who resigned their U.S. commissions and went South to join the Confederate forces at the onset of conflict. "If God intended men to be wild at heart; how strange that he placed man in the garden; where his life would be shaped not by self-centered identity quests but by conventional bonds and blessings."I rarely agree with everything said in any one book; however; there was very little in this book that I disagreed with! It is a great read!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. MUST READ!! Fantastic book to challenge and focus men on how to be a Godly example; and how to keep our hearts facing God.By IronSoftThis is a must read for Men in our modern culture. With so many things fighting for our hearts and minds; we need books like this to give us the proper focus; encouragement; and suggested ways to get there. We studied this book in our men's group and found it to be extremely good. We spent several weeks on more than one chapter; due to the depth of the points made in the chapters. This is a book for Men... but honestly; even Women can benefit.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Calling All MenBy S. BrownThis book was recommended to me by my pastor. I put it off for a while before I finally purchased it. This book is amazing! Such rich insight and knowledge. The authors puts into clear understanding the challenges facing men today. More importantly he describes how we are to respond. This book has questions for thought at the end of each of the 13 chapters. This is so worth the read!
