Miguel Pro: Martyrdom and Politics in Twentieth-Century Mexico examines the complex relationship of modern martyrdom as preserved by memory and factual truth; and as retold through stories intended to impel political and religious aims. Martyr narratives depend on institutional affiliation to remain in the public memory; and are altered in order to maintain their ability to mobilize followers within changing social and political contexts. In order to examine the evolution of lasting martyr narratives; López-Menéndez scrutinizes the various renditions of the 1927 execution of Miguel Pro; a Jesuit priest caught in the bloody conflict between Catholics and the post-revolutionary state.

The best Biography of Prophet Muhammad; comparing and contrasting Sunni and Shia sources.By Hamza PhilipMost Sunni Muslims and non-Muslims and even some Shia Muslims are unaware of what the best Shia Muslim sources have to say about the Prophet Muhammad SAWW. The Caliphate did not all a biography of the Prophet to be written for 150 years; until Ibn Ishaq's life appeared. After the Quran; it was one of the earliest Muslim books ever written; either just before or just after Imam Malik's Muwatta; or compilation of legal traditions of the Prophet; appeared. The Message; using both Sunni and Shia sources; shows that Ibn Ishaq paints the Prophet in the image of the Imperialistic Caliph rather than a true Prophet of God.Some Sunnis and all Wahabis oppose the Shia sources; as one reviewer has done on . After all; what kind of Prophet would Al Qaeda or ISIS want to read about to justify their atrocities? One who murders all the adult males and makes the females slaves after a conquest? Or one advocates justice and kindness and only executes the worse criminals. While Sunnis not affected by Wahabism; and aware of the fact that the Caliphate is long gone may not use the Shia Muslim biography of the Prophet to educate their children; they certainly would agree that the Prophet's character was just and reasonable; unlike some of the stories examples given in Ibn Ishaq's biography.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Dear readers if you believe in shia scool of thoughts ...By CustomerDear readers if you believe in shia scool of thoughts this book contains lot of information which are incoherent with Shia islam.e.g. Prophet Muhammad (SAWAW) was mentioned to be nurse fed by Sawaibah(Abu lahab slave) and Halima Saadiah which our scholars reject this. There are many other sentiment against shia islam(e.g. Bibi Khudijah was already married ;Warqa bin Nowfal stories ;insult of Abdul Mutalib asking Arabic sage to solve the matter and many more)
