I read and write a lot of historical articles and books. Dr. John Haywood is an expert in creating Historical Atlases. I always use Dr. John Haywood’s material and maps for my writings. I always have some disagreement on historical dates and sequence of some events with Dr. Haywood; however; I do consider him a scholar and a worthy historian. Read my reviews and see how many of his out of print historical atlases are in my library. This man has truly done much for the education and knowledge of history and geography to the students and related enthusiasts.This particular book is well crafted; well written and well organized. It is loaded with photos; photo descriptions; quotes from the ancient historical figures in bold fonts; informing texts and a great number of well designed colored maps. Every page has photos; maps or both. The paper used is nice quality glossy paper; no cheap paper here! I like the way he designed the format of the book. Each corner is well organized and easy to comprehend for the beginners and a thrill to review for the advanced ancient history lovers.The book is loaded with information on Persian; Greek; Roman; Egyptian and other ancient cultures and empires which are my food. Maps are well designed; colorful and comprehensive. If you are a beginner history student; this book is made for you. If you are an advanced student of history; you can use this book as reference. If you are a historian such as myself; you will enjoy reading and viewing the maps on this document.So far; I have not seen Dr. John Haywood write and publish garbage. When you see a book or a Historical Atlas is written by Dr. John Haywood; you can have a peace of mind to purchase it and rest assured that you are in good hands. This is a great overview of historical periods and ancient groups of people. This not a great; in-depth historical tool depending on what you're looking for; but even if you're a professional historian you can greatly benefit and use the maps and information presented.Go grab a copy.
