The Boys of Company K shows how life was for the common soldier on the dangerous western prairies. The men faced the threat of hostile Indians; disease; and unpredictable Wyoming weather. Follow the boys on their journey from Hillsboro; Dayton; Cincinnati and other Ohio; Kansas and Nebraska towns to Fort Laramie; Fort Halleck; the Powder River; and other frontier locations. Accounts are taken from first-hand sources such as newspaper articles; personal journals; and military records.

If you are descendants of the Mecklenburg Rea's; you must get this book!By Kathi HorsteI am thoroughly enjoying my purchase of "The Rea Families of Mecklenburg County North Carolina"! John Rea and Martha Tomberlin Rea were my 5th Great Grandparents. (John Rea- Robert Right Rea- Samuel Leander Rea- James Franklin Rea- Susan Louisa Rea Tidwell- Bertha Tidwell Lee- James Ray Lee- me :-) There is an abundance of valuable information; pictures and stories. The book reads as a story and creates a picture of what life was like for my ancestors. This book has been a huge help in my research. For one thing; it helped me figure out that Jannet Fields Lewis and who I knew as 'Jane' Secrest were actually the same person; which was a huge discovery for me. Not a big problem at all; but I am not able to find for myself a couple sources listed in the bibliography due to items no longer being in print; however the bibliography is thorough and is a valuable list of additional information to investigate! I will be ordering another copy soon to give as a gift.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
