The Reformed Pastor

ebooks The Reformed Pastor by Richard Baxter in History

Description

Thanks to the classic Dolly Parton film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and ZZ Top's ode "La Grange;" many people think they know the story of the infamous Chicken Ranch. The reality is more complex; lying somewhere between heartbreaking and absurd. For more than a century; dirt farmers and big-cigar politicians alike rubbed shoulders at the Chicken Ranch; operated openly under the sheriff's watchful eye. Madam Edna Milton and her girls ran a tight; discreet ship that the God-fearing people of La Grange tolerated if not outright embraced. That is; until a secret conspiracy enlisted an opportunistic reporter to bring it all crashing down on primetime television. Through exclusive interviews with Milton; former government officials and reporters; Jayme Lynn Blaschke delivers a fascinating; revelatory view of the Ranch that illuminates the truth and lies that surround this iconic brothel.

After you get used to the flow; there's really a ton of great advice in here. I'm shocked at how many problems and scenarios are the same no matter where or when you minister. The kindle version was great because I could skim some where I felt like it. Lots to highlight and review. Sharp; honest; and surprisingly relevant.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent!By Kindle CustomerGood ministry practices springing from God's Word should never go out of style. I lost my print copy; had to pick up a Kindle version.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Take Ministry SeriouslyBy Tim NdeanI would recommend this book to any person in ministry or considering the ministry. Baxter clearly presents his point that one should take the ministry seriously. He develops this point in many ways including the importance of ministering to each member individually; not wasting time; and guarding one's personal walk with God. Excellent read. Not too challenging; and very devotional.
