Closely examined are the social and economic problems and issues of exile; slavery; oppression; racism; sexism; ethnocentrism; cultural dominance; religious diversity; syncretism; popular religiosity; religious and spiritual imperialism; continuity and change; survival techniques in the face of attempts at eradication by religious powers; interreligious dialogue; and the quest for universal spirituality.

Excellent Overview of SalzburgersBy Cal ZantThere is a ton of reference materials out there on the Salzburgers; but this is probably the most comprehensive and reliable of all I have seen. A lot of the other "definitive" material on this group was published much earlier than this book; and because of that they have become obsolete in view of new facts and information that wasn't uncovered or compiled until the last few decades. George Fenwick Jones is the present-day authority on the Salzburgers; and is a skillful writer who has a just-the-facts approach but puts it all together in a flowing narrative. The book also contains the most complete list of the "Inhabitants of Ebenezer"; which is around 50 pages and lists all the information known about each individual from letters and other manuscripts (e.g. birth; marriages; land grants; children; death).3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great book; easy to read.By Beth WagnerI am a descendant of a Salzburger family. I had imagined their lives completely different than what I found in this book. I found it fascinating and plan to recommend it to my family members.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Five StarsBy Bunny RobertsGreat book
