Good account of one of the most devasting wars ever seen in KoreaBy Phil HistorianThe two Samurai invasions of Korea from 1592-98 are not as well known as the Korean war of the 1950s. yet this was the worst war for Korea until that conflict. Korea was invaded afterwards by the Chinese; Russians; and Japanese during the 16th to 20th centuries. maybe the reason the 1950s conflict is more famous because veterans of that conflict are still living; and the effects are still felt in the Korean Peninsula? the Japanese also wanted China; Taiwan; India; and the Philippines; all of which they would take over in WW2. the Chinese were also involved in this war and the Korean turtle ships defeated the Japanese on the sea. this is a rare Osprey and a keeper which I recommend be added to any large Osprey collection.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Short; but Kindle version has major problems.By CustomerThe illustrations are cool BUT the maps. The maps are completely broken on Kindle; both on my actual Kindle device and the kindle apps for OSX and Android. The maps are cut up into 4 or 6 pages and it's impossible to view the whole map at once. Sometimes important details are RIGHT at the X where the map is cut so you have to flip back and forth between 4 pages just to read someones name. Were these maps giant foldouts in the original text or something?Overall; I'm really liking the 9.99$ Kindle editions of Turnbull's Osprey series. Keep em coming!9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Turnbull's 2002 edition was superb; but this volume is disappointing...By JCI enjoyed Turnbull's 2002 edition "Samurai Invasion;" but this 2008 version really disappointed me. There is really no new information or insight added from his previous book. But the real disappointment is that it is very dry and boring to read. His elegant and captivating writings from the 2002 classic is missing and the readers are only left with a 90 pager book full of colorful; fancy illustrations. The publisher 'Cassel Co." is not reprinting his 2002 edition anymore; so perhaps that prompted him to write a new; inferior book.
