Ron Maxwell; producer of the acclaimed movie Gettysburg and director of Gods Generals; has encouraged the creation of this anthology that captures and explores one of the major themes of Gods Generals—devout; godly men and women on both sides of the Civil War fervently believed that their cause was not only just but that they enjoyed God's favor. In addition to several articles contributed by Ron Maxwell and commentary from various Civil War experts; the book is comprised of a montage of letters; diary entries; articles; and observations from the people who participated in the conflict.

Seeing the Holocost from a helicopterBy Aviva DanknerAppelfeld ; a truly great writer somehow missed the point of the most catostrophic event of the 20th century; that is the Holocost. He never gives the reader a picture of the horrors; he the author ;Applefeld endured. There is no continuation to the story of his life; he hovers above; giving us bits and pieces; never joining them together. Perhaps the book was better in Hebrew; it was a great dissapointment.
