As one of the pioneering scholars in the discipline of Africana Studies; John Henrik Clarke spent majority of his adult life; researching; rescuing; constructing debating; and preserving the study of African world history. His unique style and analysis postured from a Pan Africanist perspective; is one of the lasting contributions Clarke dispensed to students and life long learners. This volume is a compilation of unpublished critical essays solicited by selected scholars and reprinted articles of Clarke. The book contains several key reports on guarding and patrolling our coasts and service in Europe and South Pacific helping to land and evacuate wounded troops during combat operations. The book also contains many outstanding photographs of the 1940's and the contributions of the U. S. Coast Guard members who earned medals and awards. Since 2 of our children served in the U. S. Coast Guard; the book was of very special interest to us.
