The hellish circumstances of the invasion of Okinawa provides clear evidence of the disaster for American and its allies for the planned upcoming invasion of Japan. In fact; the use of the atomic bomb to coerce the cowardly emperor to control his military machine probably saved Japan from sacrificing millions of its citizens. Japan probably would never have recovered from an invasion. This is the greatest book to describe the real cost of war. An often overlooked arm of the navy's Landing Ship Medium (Rocket) class is vividly described here. This was written on Memorial Day 2016. A well-written book about a very precise topic in the context of a giant war.By Rich MarshThis was a surprisingly specialized book. However; as a result; it was also a very interesting read. It covered the transition from the lack of custom ships for this purpose through the start of the use of totally custom-built ships for this purpose. Along the way; it told the story of the use of these transitional ships; into their eventual outcomes; whether sunk; modified; or scraped. The author held my interest; despite the very limited focus of the book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
