Whether parachuting behind enemy lines...jumping into a Secret Service sedan for a White House meeting with JFK...or navigating the swirling flood waters of a hurricane...New Orleans' Archbishop Philip Hannan knows only one way to operate: totally committed and full speed ahead! The embodiment of "The Greatest Generation;" Archbishop Hannan's intellect; wit; generosity; and work ethic were unparalleled when fighting for what he believed in: the dangers of fascism; the preservation of the Faith; the inherent; if unforeseen; pitfalls in advising politicians on Church doctrine.Grab a front row seat on this extraordinary man's always fascinating; ever-humbling journey as he makes his mark on the pivotal events of the 20th century--the second World War; the Kennedy presidency; Vatican II; the integration of the South; Hurricane Katrina.Go behind the scenes as Archbishop Philip Hannan--at age 97; still the quintessential priest and American--details the events; pressures; decisions; and emotions of his one-of-a-kind experiences...proving; once again; the impact that one human being can have on history.

A mystery covered up or just forgotten?By Michael FAn historical detective story.Tells us every step along the way so we can see why he sees the clues the way he does.A compelling conclusion but left hanging until excavations can be funded and approved.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. the virgin mary conspiracyBy Julio J. O'TooleI'm a sucker for historical mysteries and grabbed this book (and a couple of Phillips' others) to see what he had to say. The problem with books like these is so much (even the stuff that has historical evidence) is speculative; that's fine but it's hard to back up some of the claims. That being said; Phillips has written a book that is thought provoking and; if just some of his evidence is accurate; he's laid the groundwork for future investigations. I think that's the value of a book like this. I can't believe he's 100% correct but I suspect that he's on to something.Much of the evidence cited here has been discussed by others and Phillips is looking at it with new eyes. That's not always a bad thing. He does put "boots on the ground" to personally investigate the locales and visits with other experts to discuss his findings. That lends an air of; at least; reasonable speculation. In the end it's up to the reader to decide how accurate the findings are. I'd give most of this a higher than average chance of being correct; at least to some degree. The biggest issue I have with books of this nature is that it's beyond my means to study the source material first hand. I can't read ancient languages for one thing; I also can't just pick up and travel around the world to explore these places first hand. I'm left to the works of others and some are awful. Phillips; if nothing else; has written a book that's; at least; fun to read. That's it really; in the end it's a book worth reading as it's adding; what I believe to be; viable information to the mountain of evidence in the search for history's "lost" figures. The Virgin Mary; Jesus; King Arthur and others play a role here. It's an interesting read and just needs to be taken for what it is; historical speculation.
