The Yoga of Sage Vasishta

audiobook The Yoga of Sage Vasishta by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati in History

Description

The Saul Koschitzky English Edition of the Daat Mikra Bible Research into the ancient Near East has uncovered much lost information about the history and annals of the lands of the Bible. The languages of ancient nations -- Akkadian; Egyptian; Hittite; Hurrian; Canaanite; Ugaritic -- have been retrieved; along with their writing systems; making ancient archives accessible once again. These vast treasuries of documents and texts cast a clear light on many persons and events that are relevant to the Bible. To these we can add the finds of archaeological excavations; some of which make major contributions to our knowledge of the biblical age.In this Atlas we have made a serious effort to describe the sites and historical settings of the events recounted by the Bible. We present readers with the events of the biblical age; attaching to each episode a clear map of the geographical background and a short text explicating the circumstances. The sequence of events; together with the maps and explanatory texts; creates a synopsis of biblical history.Large album format; full color; includes maps; illustrations and pictures; and indexes.

Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati has written a very good summary of the main issues; ideas; and instructions in the YV.The Swami divides his discussion in four parts. The first part is the despondency of Lord Rama. This is big issue in the YV. Spiritual yearning; the desire to change one’s spiritual and mental outlook; is a necessary first step to Self-Realization.The second part discusses the path to liberation. The Swami discusses the four requirements to liberation: peace; reflection; contentment; and positive association. The third part discusses the transformation of the worshiper’s identity. A person is a reflection of the greater universe. In this part the Swami discusses the four types of human ego and how they correspond to and are transformed to a transcendent; spiritual ego.The fourth part discusses the path to perfection in life. Here the Swami discusses how that perfection is attained through yoga and knowledge. The Yoga Vasistha is a beautiful but frequently overlooked work. Reading this classic is daunting due to its size but rewarding. For the majority of us with no time to devote to study this great work; the Swami’s summary is the next best substitute.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
