Kindle version is screwed upBy JeremusThis is an excellent book about the various manifestations of the Buddha in Mahayana Buddhism; including Tibetan Buddhism. This is not a book about the practice or tenants of Buddhism; so it's better for someone who knows a little about Buddhism already. There is an introduction where the author gives a history of Buddhism and the split into Mahayana. There are chapters on the Adi-Buddha; the Dhyani-Buddhas and Bhodhisattvas; (Kwan Yin and Kwannon have their own separate chapters); chapters on the Dharmapala and Yi-Dam; Tara; etc. It's not exactly a history; but more of an encyclopedia in who each of them are and how to identify their various forms. To me; it's an excellent book.My only problem is with the Kindle version. I had borrowed the actual book to read and decided I would like a copy and since it's hard to find; I thought I'd download the Kindle version for .99. The Kindle version is really screwed up. In the actual book; there are two columns of footnotes at the bottom of most of the pages. When they converted the book to digital; no one was paying attention and the footnotes became embedded in the actual text.....so you'll be reading along and then suddenly in mid sentence it will start with the footnotes. There's no way to delete the footnotes from the text; so you're stuck trying to find the rest of your sentence half a page down. Also; a lot of words are misspelled and sometimes symbols like %*>! are substituted for letters. So it's a little frustrating. If you have the means; I would suggest buying the actual book. If you don't; I would suggest the library. The book was published in 1914 so I believe it's in the public domain. If that's the case; there may be a website that has it on PDF and you may be legally able to download it. I'd check first; but that may be an option.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Is to much knowledge a bad thing?By Joseph N. PerezI am learning about Buddhism; and this book has it all including things I am not ready to read yet. Just hunt around it; until you find what you like.
