Excellent view from the Confederate angle.By Curt BrackenrichAlthough written in 1970; this stands as one of the best books I've seen on the Civil War as seen from the South. We've all seen countless books dealing with the various battles; and they're covered here as well; but it's rare to get behind the scenes of the Southern Government. It is facinating to see how they tried to forge the very independent minded southern states into a true nation; get international recognition; and field masive armies; all while fighting one of the strongest powers in the world. Special care is given to Jefferson Davis; the President of the young nation; doing his best to juggle the ego's of Generals; Governors; and Senators. I think many people look at the Southern cause being represented by R.E. Lee and the Army of Norhtern Virginia; this book shows a lot more to the story. The pacing of the book is spot on; this is a great overview on the "lost cause"; and very; very readable.1 of 3 people found the following review helpful.
