Good documentation of life in the American coloniesBy CustomerAs a direct descendant of Thomas Fairchild (he is my 8th great grandfather through the Peet-Garnder families); I was excited to find this book! I am always interested in curious to learn more about colonial life; its hardships; and our ancestors' accomplishments after starting life anew. I have read parts of it and still need to read the entire book. I am pleased with the writing and information it contains; and it gives me hints on where to explore should I ever be able to vacation in Stratford; CT area.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Puritan Heritage and English/American History Blended WellBy CustomerAs I began the search into my family history; I came across this book...almost by accident. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and depth that the author placed on the historical setting of the 17th century Fairchild genealogy. This is much more than a simple family tree outline. The Puritan background of 17th century England; its impact on Thomas Fairchild; and the role both would play in colonial America come together well in this book. You don't have to be a descendant of Thomas Fairchild to appreciate the impact that Puritan ideals had (and still have) on the American psyche. Overall; this is a great book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Thomas Fairchild; interesting possibly to just the descendantsBy Deborah E. ButlerI doubt anyone would want to read a book this large book about Thomas Fairchild unless you were a descendant. It does give an historic account of Colonial America that any reader would find interesting. I; personally;found it a fascinating view into the life of man who made the most of his opportunities and truly can be held up as an example of what our country represents. This is a great read for Fairchild descendants and those interested in history.
