It is well researched and written and gave me a better insight into what actually happened. If you want to learn more about "Stovepipe" read his memoir; "The Partisan Rangers of the Confederate States Army" which gives some early history and more war stories.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Blue and GrayBy steve hayesI've long heard the short version of a man with a stove pipe and a bluff invading Indiana. This book goes into detail of all the things he did; the circumstances and the outcomes. Very interesting book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Kudos!By SusieTRay Mulesky's "Thunder from a Clear Sky" is a must-read for anyone interested in the Civil War or in Kentucky; Indiana; or Texas history (the protagonist became a highly respected Texan after the war's end). This is a well-written account of the Newburgh; Indiana; raid led by Confederate Adam Rankin "Stovepipe" Johnson; a native of nearby Henderson; Kentucky. Mulesky's writing style is highly readable; thankfully lacking the I-have-to-plod-through-this necessary when reading so many other historical nonfiction. Kudos on a job well done!
