Known for its clear narrative voice and impeccable scholarship; Alan Brinkley's best-selling program for the U.S. survey course invites students to think critically about the many forces that continually create the Unfinished Nation that is the United States. In a concise but wide-ranging narrative; Brinkley shows the diversity and complexity of the nation and our understanding of its history--one that continues to evolve both in the events of the present and in our reexamination of new evidence and perspectives on the past. This edition features a series of Patterns of Popular Culture essays; as well as expanded coverage of pre-Columbian America; new America in the World essays; and updated coverage of recent events and developments that demonstrates how a new generation continues to shape the American story.

At the end of each chapter are books that the writers used to create that chapter. Seeing as there are about 30 chapters and 20 books per chapter; these writers are very well read—a library of ~600 books for modern history from 1500's to current day where amalgamated into this book.I get the feeling it's my first modern (1500's to now) history book; but I might be reading more in the future.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. World history; plain; simple; and super informationalBy Liz AI rented this guy for a world history class. This was a pretty good textbook that did a lot to address colonization and perspectives from different cultures all over the world. I appreciated the diversity of this textbook; the detail; and it did a good job of covering many time periods and geographic locations. I almost wish I had purchased it instead of renting; as it really is a good reference.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Easy to read even if you don't particularly like the ...By B. Zom.Easy to read even if you don't particularly like the subject. I feel like the main points were represented well and the sections were put in a way that made the book very organized and easy to find specific questions in.
