This second volume in Shelby Foote's masterfully written history of the Civil War is dominated by the almost continual confrontation of great armies. The Army of the Potomac under Burnside attempts once again to take Richmond; resulting in the bloodbath at Fredericksburg. Then Joe Hooker tries again; only to be repulsed at Chancellorsville as Stonewall Jackson turns his flank - a bitter victory for the South; paid for by the death of Lee's foremost lieutenant.

A Treat For Western History BuffsBy Steve M.This is a fascinating book; which tells the stories of many of the well-known and some lesser known figures of the old west. From Wild Bill Hickok to Alferd Packer; the reader learns the true stories of some of the individuals who helped tame the west. Each chapter is fairly short; but gives enough information to be interesting and informative. I enjoyed reading this book; and I would recommend it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Although the book is paperback; it is however very good quality with thick pages. After reading this book I signed up for their magazine.
