Review
5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Not what the title claims it to beBy T. StibalA book by an aircraft enthusiast; this book does not really deliver on what it promises. It's a bland review of each of the major carriers (with bare dates and some place names); coverage of aircraft (this part is better than the rest of it) and a ringing of the changes as the US Navy progressed through the battles won on the way to victory. What it is NOT is an analysis of how the operations were conducted; changes in US carrier air strategy; and all of the ins and outs of conducting a carrier battle. Nothing on deck cycles; noting on air tactics; very little on the 'operation' of the ships. For a much better book on the topic; buy a used copy of the Norman Friedman book from back in the 1980s. It's thin and it covers all carrier ops; but the analysis is far superior.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A waste of time when there are so many better books ...By S. LaidlawThis book is a train wreck. In the first 20 pages; there are so many typos and misidentified aircraft in the photo captions; I decided to return the book. A waste of time when there are so many better books on the same topic.
