ePub USS Constellation on the Dismal Coast: Willie Leonard’s Journal;1859–1861 (Studies in Maritime History) by From University of South Carolina Press in History

Description

The scope and the theme of the book is to analyze the modern political trends and strategies that are leading to major changes in Western civilization; America included; since the OIC strategy targets America also. Learning from the European experience is crucial for Americans. Moreover this evolution is inscribed in the historical movement of Islamic theology and expansionism. It is not fortuitous but it has its own theological and political structure that must be known in the West if we wish to live in a peaceful world.

The Africn Squadron Lives Again ....By Donald BakerSeaman Willie Leonard's journal of his life aboard the USS Constellation while serving in the US Navy' s pre-civil war African Squadron provides the basis for a richly detailed and researched account of the now little remembered effort to intercept and bring to a halt the transportation of slaves to the United States. Wherever Leonard has used a now archiaic technical term or form of English which would tend to cloud the intended meaning of his text the author has inserted an explanation which eliminates any possible confusion.Don Baker0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. family historyBy debWilliam A.
