Worth a look as a starting pointBy History TeacherA little dated; perhaps; compared with the more recent and meticulous work of artists like Don Troiani. I'm sure the hardcore living history buff will find a lot to quibble with here. But there is a wide variety of units represented here; and the background provided helps the reader understand the social; cultural; and political differences which shaped the way the armies of the Civil War clothed themselves. For the casual history buff or wargamer; this is a valuable and accessible work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. and the book makes a good portable referenceBy Feldmar TwomblebeeThis was a much smaller book than all of the author's other efforts in my library. I would have appreciated more detail on physical size. The contents were well done; however; and the book makes a good portable reference.
