Up the Missouri River with Lewis and Clark: From Camp Dubois to the Bad River

DOC Up the Missouri River with Lewis and Clark: From Camp Dubois to the Bad River by Bill Markley in History

Description

THIS NEWLY ENHANCED EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S 1936 BOOK IS PARTICULARLY RELEVANT TO THE ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION OF THE CURRENT MORO (ISLAMIC FILIPINO) POLITICAL AND BRUTALLY SAVAGE EVENTS IN THE SOUTHERN ISLANDS;INCLUDING ABU SAYYAF AND THE HISTORICAL CONNECTION TO BOTH TRADIONAL AND RADICAL ISLAM. It now contains photographs and maps from the author's private collection never before available; a new introduction setting out the author's history and connection to the Philippines; and a new comprehensive index to this history of the Moros' 500 year struggle to maintain their culture and their tradional homeland. LEGENDARY WARRIORS: THE ISLAMIC MOROS OF THE PHILIPPINES HAVE NEVER BEEN CONQUERED. To reach a real understanding of the forces of history that made the Moros the fearsome fighters that they were and are; the author gives the reader hard facts; careful research; and vivid prose. Although Hurley was writing at a much earlier time and from a western viewpoint; there is no doubt about his respect and admiration for the character and convictions of the fighting Moros; and his disdain for the ineffective strategies and tactics of the US military.

It was natural that this would be my next Markley book. Great style; you can imagine yourself on the trip. I liked the description of the discoveries they made. and the way they went about dealing with Native bands. Many a explorer have found out that only one thing could cause an attack; and lost their life because of it...Lewis and Clark are proven good leaders; and anticipate all problems. I also wanted to learn more about the men and this was accomplished by Bill. Now I want to kayak the river with Bill.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Markley is always entertainingBy P. NipperAny book by Bill Markley will entertain you; as well as inform you. He writes what he knows and does excellent research. You won't be disappointed in this look at the Corps of Discovery as they start out on their expedition; and whip their team into shape.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Have not read it yet; But Dakota Epic was great!By Andrew KightlingerI have yet to read this book; but Dakota Epic is still one of the better "on-the-set" books I've ever read! I'm sure this book lives up to Dakota Epic is style and substance.
