Crossroads and Cultures: A History of the World’s Peoples incorporates the best current cultural history into a fresh and original narrative that connects global patterns of development with life on the ground. As the title; “Crossroads;†suggests; this new synthesis highlights the places and times where people exchanged goods and commodities; shared innovations and ideas; waged war and spread disease; and in doing so joined their lives to the broad sweep of global history. Students benefit from a strong pedagogical design; abundant maps and images; and special features that heighten the narrative’s attention to the lives and voices of the world’s peoples.

Ralph RandolphExcellent introduction to the Spanish conquest of Mexico from Cortes's sailing from Cuba to the final battle. Likewise; Schwartz has selected very good exerts from accounts by both the "victors and the vanquished." The Aftermath section is also good. I plan to use the book in my freshman college classes as a means of studying an important event in American and world history and as an exercise in using primary accounts. Most accounts of battles and conquests are from the winners' side only; this book is a refreshing difference.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Valuable introduction to the clash of cultures from both sides of the major playersBy sdoneWritten as a textbook for Latin American studies it is very informative; but quite short. Having the opportunity to read information from both sides; the Spanish and the Mexica or Aztec people it is very informative and enlightening. This was a time when two cultures previously unaware of the existence of the other collided and what came of it. Very interesting reading which served to increase my interest in the reading of some of the source material. This is a very good overview.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.
