Korean War veterans were perhaps the last of the stoics ...By CustomerKorean War veterans were perhaps the last of the stoics; those who were indoctrinated with the mantra that "real men" don't complain; don't cry; don't ask for help. Hollywood's take on their experience - The Manchurian Candidate - was banned and their war wasn't even called a war; but a "police action." Second guessed by politicians; the pawns of egotists; soldiers suffered the consequences of multiple bungles. No wonder the veterans Vickie Spring interviewed clearly felt relief; pride; anger; and a surge of other emotions. I am sure this book must have been carefully crafted; yet it must have been done with a light; respectful touch.Thank you; Vickie.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Finally a chance to be heardBy velma v geeAs usual these men were finally given a chance to be heard and did not furnish enough details to satisfy me. My husband was very stoic and would not talk about his time in Korea. He did not want to revisit his memories. I bought the book to get the details from others who had been there. They also glossed over their fear and apprehension. i learned a lot but not enough on an emotional level for me.--but I am a nosy person.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Read Voices Almost LostBy PeteI purchased this book for two reason: First; Vickie is a dear friend; and second; the proceeds go to the veterans. But WOW! This was way more than I was bargaining for! I'm so glad I got to read the stories of the people who fought in Korea. My Uncle was a veteran of Korea; and all my family would share was that he came back different. He passed away before I ever got to hear even a shred of what changed him. Now I know! .... Thank you Vickie for writing this engaging book! It was a work that brought forth a gambit of emotions; but I came away moved; changed; and informed all of which no dollar amount could be placed. We should all make such great commitments and follow through as you have here. I am happy to have purchased the hardcover copy to include in my library!
