Voices From the Napoleonic Wars

ePub Voices From the Napoleonic Wars by Jon E. Lewis in History

Description

Though primarily fought in the field; the American Revolution saw fortifications play an important part in some of the most important campaigns of the war. Field fortifications were developed around major towns including Boston; New York and Savannah and frontier forts--at Stanwix; Niagara and Cumberland--were to all be touched by the war. This book details all the types of fortification used throughout the conflict; the engineers on all sides who constructed and maintained them; and the actions fought around and over them.

The excerpts I saw on line were very interesting. First hand accounts from centuries past are always really priceless to see.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Definitely worth the readBy David R. HigginsJust a great book. The Napoleonic period isn't my specialty; and I found the personal stories very forthcoming; and provided fascinating insight into the period. The mix of nationalities; ranks; locations; and specialties also gave an interesting range of perspectives and experiences. The brutal; heart-wrenching stories of combat and its aftereffects should be required reading for those who would initiate war in anything other than a last resort. -Perhaps a tall order considering they and theirs almost never have to abide by such decisions and risk all in its direct participation.
