Warburton's War: The Life of Maverick Ace Adrian Warburton

PDF Warburton's War: The Life of Maverick Ace Adrian Warburton by Tony Spooner in History

Description

On October 28; 1959; John Howard Griffin underwent a transformation that changed many lives beyond his own—he made his skin black and traveled through the segregated Deep South. His odyssey of discovery was captured in journal entries; arguably the single most important documentation of 20th-century American racism ever written. More than 50 years later; this newly edited edition—which is based on the original manuscript and includes a new design and added afterword—gives fresh life to what is still considered a “contemporary book.” The story that earned respect from civil rights leaders and death threats from many others endures today as one of the great human—and humanitarian—documents of the era. In this new century; when terrorism is too often defined in terms of a single ethnic designation or religion; and the first black president of the United States is subject to hateful slurs; this record serves as a reminder that America has been blinded by fear and racial intolerance before. This is the story of a man who opened his eyes and helped an entire nation to do likewise.

It was difficult to put down to go to sleep!2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not a casual biographyBy LEMany books about combat pilots cover only the dramatic events of their operational careers. The better biographies cover the whole person; not just their flying escapades. "Warburton' War" is one of these better books. The author has interviewed many of Warburton's personal acquaitents and intimate friends to craft a literary profile of Warbuton's childhood; personality; devils; and demons. "Warburton's War" provides a basic background to war in the Mediterranean while resurecting the life of an obscure but truly remarkable war hero. It is a biography of the best quality possible for such a forgotten man.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. GreatBy Sam C. FraserA true story. If this was fiction; nobody would print it because Warburton's achievements and life are just too unbelievable. Yet he did it. If you are a military aficionado and aren't familiar with Warburton or the Malta story; do yourself a favor - read this book and Holland's book - "Fortress Malta".
