Excerpt from From Vicksburg to Raleigh: Or a Complete History of the Twelfth Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry; and the Campaigns of Grant and Sherman; With an Outline of the Great RebellionServices it records. The author offers no apology for ad ding to the long list of books with which the press is teeming; upon the subject of our recent struggle for the permanency of free institutions. The field of thought and range of topics are so wide that a record of individual ex perience and observation; as well as the movements of armies; will command attention; since all well understand that the glory of our arms has been secured through the efliciency of the individual soldier; under subordinate com manders. While our great leaders and their noble armies are exalted to the highest position of honor; it will not be deemed presumptuous for the various sub-divisions of those armies to claim their right to be heard. The object of this volume is to present the outline of the operations in the Valley of the Mississippi and in the several Cotton States; in which the Twelfth Indiana Volunteer Infantry participated. If the numerous friends of the Indiana soldiers are led to appreciate their services more fully by reading this volume; the aim of the author will be secured.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book is killing my like for HistoryBy BrookeThis is from someone who enjoys history class.I do not enjoy the layout of this book. sure it has a lot of nice pictures and maps but I feel like the paragraphs have too much information and its not necessarily useful to know for tests etc. It is a struggle to try to get through one chapter. I have had other History classes that chose the Liberty book (Norton) and that was a much better fit because it offered a free Study Space site with chapter outlines; Quizzes; flashcards and much more. This book also has a site but is not accessible unless your instructor sets it up and with no guarantee that this particular book will be available.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. but written very clearly and has good extra stories at the back of the chaptersBy Kolee.SmilesA little dry; but written very clearly and has good extra stories at the back of the chapters!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
