A diagnosis of the uncomfortable JewBy SurakI wish this book weren't necessary. We Jews should be proud of our heritage and our unmatched contributions to world civilization. Unfortunately; bigotry has led the weak-minded to desire to assimilate.Much of this book is devoted to relating the unsavory history of the Jewish establishment - the Reform and Conservative movements; the Federations; and the alphabet soup of communal agencies which serve the glory of their donors; but often take Jewish observance and even Jewish survival too lightly. The innocent reader will be shocked to learn how the American Jewish establishment betrayed European Jewish refugees fleeing the Holocaust.The late Rabbi Kahane's prophecies were like a fire-bell in the night; deliberately disturbing the comfortably complacent American Jewish community. He offers a vision of a vibrant; proud Judaism; at home in its native land. Even More True TodayBy musicloverAll I could think as I read this book is to wonder what Kanane would think now about the current state of US Jewry. Intermarriage rates way higher than when he wrote this book; Jewish college students turning on Israel and siding with the "Palestinians"; the lessening levels of Jewish commitment and observance in the US.Sadly he was so right and ahead of his time in so many ways.
