Why the Jews Rejected Jesus: The Turning Point in Western History

ePub Why the Jews Rejected Jesus: The Turning Point in Western History by David Klinghoffer in History

Description

The utterly absorbing real story of the lives of the Pilgrims; whose desires and foibles may be more recognizable to us than they first appear.Americans have been schooled to believe that their forefathers; the Pilgrims; were somber; dark-clad; pure-of-heart figures who conceived their country on the foundation of piety; hard work; and the desire to live simply and honestly. But the truth is far from the portrait painted by decades of historians. They wore brightly colored clothing; often drank heavily; believed in witches; had premarital sex and adulterous affairs; and committed petty and serious crimes against their neighbors in surprisingly high numbers. Beginning by debunking the numerous myths that surround the landing of the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving; James Deetz and Patricia Scott Deetz lead us through court transcripts; wills; probate listings; and rare firsthand accounts; as well as archaeological finds; to reveal the true story of life in colonial America.

This is an excellent; well written book that explains it in depth ...By Eric S.For anyone who ever wondered why The Jews don't accept jesus as the messiah. This is an excellent; well written book that explains it in depth drawing on scriptural sources. I highly recommend it for non-Jews who ask the question as well as for Jews who are often faced with missionaries who insist on "proof texting" to try and sell chrsitianty to uninformed Jews.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What is good about it is that it written from the Jewish ...By AnĉjoI actually would have given this 3.5 stars; but there is no half star. What is good about it is that it written from the Jewish perspective without anger involved. It makes what I would consider the more subtle arguments. Where as other books; such as Paul and Jesus; Yeshua's People; attack the notion that Jesus was more than a man head on; this work focuses more on why it would have been implausible for Jews of the first century to embrace the Jewish rebel as such. It got four stars for filling a gap I wanted filled.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Another one for the history buffs.By Floretta O'brienExcellent analysis and exegesis on important events which greatly influenced and helped to shape world history. A must-read if you're looking for an answer as to why the people to whom Jesus belonged wound up rejecting him as a god and savior.
