World War II: The Definitive Visual History

ebooks World War II: The Definitive Visual History by DK in History

Description

Stonewall Jackson depended on him; General Lee complimented him; Union soldiers admired him; and women in Maryland; Virginia; and even Pennsylvania adored him. Henry Kyd Douglas devoted himself to the Southern cause; fighting its battles and enduring its defeats; and during and shortly after the Civil War; Douglas set down his experiences of great men and great days. In simple; resonant prose written wholly firsthand from notes and diaries made on the battlefield; he covered the full emotional spectrum of a soldier's life. I Rode with Stonewall is one of the most remarkable stories to come out of any war.

The layout and the included pictures in both books are great. With regards the textual content; it's more than necessary for the type of information they're trying to convey. They have to condense each aspect of the war in 1 or 2 pages; which is tough. People who are looking for more depth should read other books dedicated to each subject (e.g. there are really more than enough good books on The Battle of Hürtgen Forest; or Ardennen offensive etc.).But as a reference book for quick information or just plain browsing; this book; like most DK books; is great and serves its' purpose (also looks good in a bookcase btw).2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The books are filled with an immense amount of information which is presented in a fascinating; readable way. Of course the author couldn't include absolutely every single detail about the subject at hand; but they still did a wonderful job. The photos are gorgeous and a perfect complement to the information being presented. The books themselves have sturdy binding and stout construction.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is an excellent reference book on WW2By JOHN R WIGGINSThis is an excellent reference book on WW2. Having been raised in the military as well as serving in the military I have studied WW2 for over 40 years. This appears to be an accurate portrayal of that time in our history. I wanted an accurate reference book to give to my grandchildren in light of the attempts to rewrite our history. This is a great reference book for them.
