Adolf Hitler is the most notorious political figure of the twentieth century. The story of his life; how he became a dictator; and how he managed to convince so many to follow his cause is a subject of perennial fascination. Balancing narrative and analysis; this biography employs a chronological approach to describe the main features of Hitler’s career. Set against the background of developments in Germany and Europe during his lifetime; the text tells the extraordinary story of how an Austrian layabout rose to become Führer of the Third Reich. The chapters incorporate into their narrative the major debates surrounding Hitler’s ideas; behaviour and historical significance. Particular attention is paid to his experience as a soldier in 1914 -18 and to the reasons why his original left-wing sympathies transmuted into Nazism. Arguments over the real character of Hitler’s dictatorship are analysed and a measured assessment is offered on the disputed issues of how far Hitler initiated the Third Reich’s domestic and foreign policies himself and to what extent he was controlled by events. His destructive leadership of wartime Germany is now a subject of close scrutiny among historians and the book’s final chapters deal with this theme and offer a set of reflections on Hitler’s relationship with the German people and his legacy to the German nation. Michael Lynch provides a balanced guide to this most difficult of figures that will be enlightening for students and general readers alike

It puts a new perspective on a great subject and gives these myths an edgier more modern spin. Plus; the lessons learned at the end of each myth is priceless. I highly recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor and a passion for mythology.18 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Highly RecommendBy P. TalleyI have read a lot of mythology in my time; and eventually stopped because everyone took it so overly seriously. This is not that. It is a brilliant; funny; pop-culture filled tome of some of the most insane and genuinely funny writing I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Some personal favorite section titles: "King Midas Is: GOLDFINGER"; "Ra and Sekhmet; or: How Beer Saved the Universe"; and "Local Father Discovers Immortality with This One Weird Tip!".Cory O'Brien has struck gold with this wonderful book; and I certainly hope more people buy it and read it; and read every part of it.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I absolutely love this bookBy JacqueI absolutely love this book. I've read a decent amount of mythology; including Greek; Hindu; Norse; Egyptian; etc. This pulls together modern views of just how messed up some of these myths were; but also teach us how we can apply some of these morals and stories to modern life. (I mean; Zeus couldn't keep it in his pants... everyone's gotta know someone like that). Essentially it's a very good read. Obviously; in consideration of what these myths entail; there will be violence and sexual things; but that's normal. Just enjoy the read; it's a great and entertaining book. It turns even the most uninteresting myths into entertaining and easy to comprehend spectacles.
